Program Overview
Launched in June 2024, Sparsham is an initiative by DDS, in collaboration with FIAPO, to improve the health and well-being of donkeys working in brick kilns across the Parali and Ambajogai areas of Beed district. These donkeys, numbering over 800, play a crucial role in transporting soil and bricks across more than 120 brick kilns. However, their health often goes unnoticed and unaddressed. Sparsham is a step towards changing this reality by offering quality, timely veterinary care to these hardworking animals.

Early Achievements
The program has already made a significant impact since its inception. On July 17th and 18th, DDS conducted inspections across several brick kilns in Parali and Ambajogai. Over 400 donkeys were examined during this phase by reaching out to 25 animal owners residing in areas like Ram Nagar (Parali), Kranti Nagar (Ambajogai), Kalamb, and Gadigao Road (Barshi). This comprehensive assessment was carried out despite work being paused during the rainy season, showcasing the team’s dedication.

Under the leadership of Project Manager Dr. Akshay Musale and veterinary assistants Sagar Waghmare and Prashant Arkad, the program addressed a variety of health concerns affecting these animals. From treating diseases to providing preventive care, the team worked tirelessly to ensure the donkeys received the care they deserve.

The efforts of the Sparsham team were met with appreciation and gratitude from the donkey owners. Many expressed their satisfaction with the initiative, emphasizing its importance in supporting their animals’ health and, by extension, their livelihoods.

The program will continue for the coming years, focusing on regular health check-ups, treatment, and education for donkey owners about proper care practices. By addressing the health challenges faced by these animals, Sparsham aims to create a sustainable and humane working environment for them.
